Ham Raffles

Kellie, Jon's older sister, was going to the raffles with her friends and asked if Kerrie, Jon, and I wanted to join. I had never been to the RSL club and was keen to go see what it was all about.

What is an RSL club? And what does RSL stand for? RSL club stands for Returned Services Leagues Club. The Returned and Services League of Australia (often abbreviated to RSL) is a support organisation for men and women who have served or are serving in the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

We went to the Cronulla RSL Memorial Club.

You either have to be a member to go or go with a member that can sign you in. Jon's mom Kerrie is a member. She drove Jon and I to the club. Kellie and her friends were already there and had a fabulous table by the window. This is a picture of Jon and I at our table.

There were a lot of people there. Mostly ages thirty and above. The people in the tables around us had all gone gray but there were a good groups of young people too.

The first thing we did when we got there was stand in line to purchase our raffle tickets. Jon bought $20 for the both us and if you bought $20 you got an extra $10 free. Kerrie also got the $20 deal.
Next we went to the bar to get drinks. I had a Pure Blonde and Jon had his usual Victoria Bitter (VB).
Kellie and her friends had been there for a while and had been drinking. Her one friend Amber was blind drunk and entertaining the tables around us. She ended up getting bored with talking to us and sat with the 70 year old men at the table behind us. Very funny.

Kerrie was feeling extra lucky so she gave me her raffle tickets to mind while she went and played the pokies (slot machines). Not ten minutes after she left for the pokies her number was called! I walked up the the front to collect her ham. I do not eat ham, nor do I know anything about the different parts. When I was asked to pick which part I want I just pointed randomly. Jon said it was that leg and I picked a good one. It weighed about 7 kilos which is like 15 pounds.

After my workout walking the ham back to the table I got myself a glass of pinot grigio. Wine is so good and inexpensive here in Australia. I love it!
As luck would have it, Jon and I also had our ticket number called! Yay!!!! So I walked up to retrieve the prize. I got a few boos the first time I walked up and people saying they should have won. All in good fun of course. And this time I had people booing and cheering. It was really fun.

Out of the 10 people at our table, 5 of us won hams!!!!!!!!

Kellie and her friend went to the raffles the next Thursday and both won hams!

Beach Day then Red, White, and Blues Festival

Sunday, November 14th

I went to the beach with Jon, Mark, Laura, and Abby. We laid our towels near the rock pools at Cronulla and dove in a few times because it was so very hot. We stayed at the beach for a couple of hours before we walked back to Dunningham Park where the Wine Festival was being held. There were so many people but not so many that it was annoying to walk around or find a place to sit.

We did a loop looking at the different Winery and food tents and found a great place to sit under some shade. It was also a great location because our friends could find us easily. I decided on a yummy Thai veggie noodle dish. After a few minutes of eating I discovered a HUGE green caterpillar. Gross and awkward. My friends Rowdy and Alex got the same thing but I didn't tell them about discovery until they had finished eating.

Abby and Laura bought a cup and tickets. It was $15 for the souvenir glass and 5 tasting tickets. They bought some yummy strawberry daiquiris with their tickets and Abby bought a couple of bottles of white wine.

I walked around a bit taking pictured and I interviewed some of my friends. Jon and Mark stood and listened to Dead Letter Chorus. They are a local band from Cronulla.

A few more of our friends came down to the festival. They went by the bottle shop on the way and got a few beers to drink at the park.

I love Cronulla Beach and the fact that there is always something fun going on for the whole family on the weekends. It is the best place to live!

This is a clip of some pictures and an interview I did.
